Olive biomass<\/a>\u00a0is all residual organic matter generated during olive cultivation and processing. Although for years it has been discarded or inefficiently managed, its enormous energy, agricultural and industrial potential is now recognized. This change of approach not only contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of the olive sector, but also makes it possible to convert a waste product into a resource that generates economic and environmental value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most consolidated uses of this biomass is its energy use. Olive pits, for example, have a high calorific value and are used as biofuel in stoves and boilers. Orujillo (solid residue of olive pomace) and dried olive pomace are also used as fuels in industrial facilities, reducing the consumption of fossil fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovation is opening up new ways of using it. Some lines of research are already working on the transformation of these by-products into organic fertilizers, bioplastics, natural cosmetics or even insulating materials for construction.
